Canary Islands DayThe Day of the Canary Islands (Día de las Canarias) is a public holiday the Canary Islands, Spain, on May 30 each year. This event celebrates the islands' culture and people. It also marks the anniversary of the autonomous Canary Islands Parliament's first session, which was on May 30, 1983.

Canary Islands Day CelebrationsMany cultural activities are arranged for the Día de las Canarias each year. Schools teach extra classes about Canary Islands’ history and culture and organize parties for their students in the days and weeks leading up to the Day of the Canary Islands. Private parties are held throughout the islands at people´s homes or in restaurants on the evening of May 29th. Many events are held during the day and into the evening in towns and villages on the Day of the Canary Islands.
Many businesses and other organizations are closed. Many stores are closed but some bakers and food stores may be open. Public transport services generally run to a reduced schedule, although there may be no services in rural areas. Large events may cause some local disruption to traffic, particularly in town and village centers.
