Macaroon Day Celebration

A macaron is a sweet meringue-based confection made with eggs, icing sugar, granulated sugar, almond powder or ground almond, and food colouring. The macaron is commonly filled with ganache, buttercream or jam filling sandwiched between two biscuits. The name is derived from the Italian word macarone, maccarone or maccherone, the Italian meringue.

The origin of the delicious macaron is a little murky; some give credit to the French, while others think the first of the delicate treats was an Italian creation. No matter where they were first baked, the truth remains that they are simply divine when done correctly.
Macaron Day, or Jour du Macaron, is not just a day to indulge in sweet treats; many bakeries are also donating portions of their sales to charity. In fact, the holiday was started nine years ago in Paris by pastry chef Pierre Hermé as a way to raise money for charities across the globe.
